NUMBERS OF THE MONTH

  #84 - Hendrick Motorsports (2004)  

This number was ran for one year and one year only in 2004 as an inverse of Jimmie Johnson’s 48 car, this car ran with Kyle Busch in his first starts to set him up for his rookie campaign in 2005.

#5 - Hendrick Motorsports (2005-2007)

The original Hendrick number 5 team, this number style first ran with Terry Labonte in 2001, winning the 2003 Southern 500 before relinquishing the ride to Kyle Busch in 2005 when he became the youngest winner in NASCAR history to win a Cup race, followed by a year with Casey Mears, Mark Martin ran with the team in 2009 with this number style and became the oldest winner in Cup history with this number style.

#8 - Richard Childress Racing (2024-2026)

Busch came over from Joe Gibbs to drive the 8 car for Richard Childress in 2023, this number style with Zone branding became a thing in 2024, this number style was ran with Busch from the 2024 Daytona 500 to his untimely death in May of 2026. After that event, Childress retired this number and is reserving it if his son decides to race in NASCAR.

#18 - Joe Gibbs Racing (2008-2022)

This number has been one of the most SUCCESSFUL in modern era history. The first win with this number style was Atlanta in 2008 where he brought Toyota its first win in NASCAR Cup History and the first for a non American MANUFACTURE since 1954, winning a championship in 2015 and 2019 with this number and 56 victories, Busch brought this number to immortality, certainly his pattented number.

RACE TEAMS OF THE MONTH

Newman Hendrick Racing (1990)

A short lived operation between actor Paul Newman and owner Rick Hendrick, they operated the number 18 chevrolet for one year, driven by greg sacks. One time battling with dale earnhardt for a win at Talladega in their first attempt together and scoring a pole at Daytona that July. The team shut down after sponsor Ultra Slim-Fast Pulled out all funding, later selling the teams equipment to the upstart Joe Gibbs Racing.

Bahari’ Racing (1986-1999)

BIZARRELY named Bahari Racing, named after the three owners, is best remembered as its days as a mid-pack team in the Cup Series in the Late 1980’s and 1990’s. Best remembered for drivers Michael Waltrip and Johnny Benson driving the 30 Pontiac with sponsorship such as Maxwell House, Pennzoil, and Gumout Lubricants. The team was sold in 1999 and renamed to Eel River Racing the next year.

Kaulig Racing (2020-Present)

LeafFilter founder and owner, Matthew Kaulig sponsored blake Koch in 2015 and realized it would be better to fund a team starting in 2016, in 2020, the team made the jump up to the Cup Series for the first time and attempted full time in 2022, best known for the team that REJUVENATED A.J. Allmendinger’s career, winning two races in the process. They currently run the 10 and 16 cars in Cup and 5 Truck teams in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Junior Johnson & Associates (1965-1995)

The gold standard of teams, operated by legendary Junior Johnson out of Wilkes County, North Carolina, this team accomplished 132 wins and 6 championships, fourth most wins all time in NASCAR history behind Hendrick Motorsports, Petty Enterprises, and Joe Gibbs Racing. The team ran with Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, LeeRoy Yarbrough and Bill Elliott among other drivers.
