Car Number History

Why the #80? - The team likely used it to go with number that went with both 18 and 20 as it was a R&D team.

Why the #02? - In preparation of Joey Logano’s Rookie Season in 2009, he needed some starts in Cup, he was set to debut in the 02 Home Depot car, a number that’s inverse of the number 20, which Logano was to drive in 2009. The number returned in 2009 when Farm Bureau Insurance sponsored the team in a R&D car with David Gilliland.

Why the #81? - Similar to an inverse of 20, this was an inverse of the number 18 which was sponsored by Mars International. The 81 came back for two races, Kansas and Talladega with Alert Energy Gum (A Mars product) on the car with driver Elliott Sadler behind the wheel.

Why the #19? - The number 19 was likely selected due to being in the middle of 18 and 20, numbers that were being used at that time. The 19 number was previously ran with Gibbs in 2005 in the Busch Series.
