Car Number History

Why the #6? - The number 6 was the flagship car for Roush for over 25 years until it went under a hiatus in 2012, it re-emerged in 2015 when the 99 car became the 6 car moving forward. As for why they chose the 6 car, Mark Martin answered in a Reddit AMA in 2018 that Roush was not big into numbers since he came over from the world of drag racing. The first sponsor for the team, the Stroh Brewery Company requested they use a number that was between 1 and 9 because low numbers were easy to remember, the only number that was available in that time was 6 so they selected that number.

Why the #60? - The number 60 has a long history with the Roush organization. It was chosen as the Busch Grand National number by Mark Martin for his team in 1992 since the number 6 was taken then, they just added a 0 to the end of 6 and it became one of the more iconic numbers of the Busch Series in the 1990’s. The number was chosen in 2024 as “Stage 60”, a collaboration part time team with world class drivers racing in one off rides. The number was retained for the third team the next year when it became full time with Nutmegger Ryan Preece.
